Bartlett Pear Tree – Atlantic Canada
Requires a pollinator of a different pear variety for fruit production
The Bartlett Pear Tree (pronounced BART-let) is the classic pear variety most people picture when they think of pears. Well suited for growers in Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick, Bartlett is prized for its iconic shape, strong aroma, and unmistakable pear flavor.
Bartlett pears have a true pyriform (pear-shaped) form, with a rounded bell-shaped bottom, a defined shoulder, and a narrower neck at the stem end. The fruit is highly aromatic and delivers the distinctive, traditional pear taste that has made Bartlett one of the most popular pear varieties worldwide.
Often harvested green, Bartlett pears will ripen to a golden yellow color at room temperature, becoming soft, juicy, and richly flavored. This variety is exceptionally versatile—excellent for fresh eating, and widely used for canning, baking, sauces, and preserves.
When planted with a compatible pear pollinator, the Bartlett Pear Tree produces dependable crops and serves as an excellent foundation variety for home orchards across Atlantic Canada.
